About Jane

Hello – I am Jane Malyon and I’m delighted to welcome you to my blog.

How did you get involved in 1-1 Coaching & Group Training?

Well, about 12 years ago, a pal was finishing her Master Practitioner training and asked me to be a Guinea Pig on which to practise.  I thought it was fascinating and signed up to a ‘taster’ course…after which I thoroughly got the bug!  The training over the next couple of years gave me, on a personal level, a new sense of resourcefulness as well as some great new tools for parenting our lively and creative children!  It also gave me a training which enabled me to work with people – and I’m a people-person through and through. I’d also previously been involved for years on an unpaid Telephone Helpline, helping people in crisis – and I had missed that sort of interaction – so being able to coach people towards happiness and success, was pure pleasure.  See my website www.havebedo.co.uk – and maybe even sign up for the weekly emails on the secrets of happiness.

After that, bearing in mind I’ve been a paid Public Speaker for 30 years too,  it was a natural progression to add Group Training for companies.  I’ve been also acting as a Facilitator at company away days and events  – and have done event organising – and the training on interpersonal skills developed from there.  Communication skills, listening skills, networking skills, confidence, rapport building, handling difficult people, teamwork improvement etc – all part of the interpersonal skills repertoire!

Really informative, really fun, very welcoming!  Sarah Peachey after January 2010 course

How did you get into Public Speaking?

jane malyon event speaker3 150x150 About JaneAs a woman, of course, talking comes easily to me!  Ha.  ‘Forced’ into elocution lessons as a child, I always had a ‘projected’ voice too.  Then, one day, at a social group I was attending, the booked speaker didn’t turn up.  I was persuaded to stand in for the missing speaker – and found I could speak off the cuff for 45 minutes – and  the audience seemed to laugh a lot too.  So, either my clothing was very funny, or perhaps I had stumbled onto a new niche!   That was about 24 years ago – and I’ve enjoyed speaking to groups of all sizes, ever since.

Jane as a Writer

When something comes ‘easily’ to you, it’s sometimes easy to overlook it!  I’ve always enjoyed writing and really like words (I’m pretty good at Scrabble too!) and my drawers are filled with unfinished books, stories, film scripts and poems (aagh!).   For 20 years I’ve written a small column in a local magazine – and for 20 years, people have been stopping me in the street to tell me how much they enjoy it and how they look forward to reading it each month.  Gradually I started to take my own writing a bit more seriously.  If  it’s something I love to do (and can do it anywhere, whether I’m visiting Toronto or somewhere else!) and others like reading it….well – it’s a no-brainer really!  Then I started to take on article writing…then website pages for other people, press releases, brochures, proforma letters, speeches, network presentations, sales material, adverts and ghost writing for an established author etc etc…and I think that now means, after all these years, that I am a writer!  So at the end of January 2010, my first ebook gets published…and now it must be time to finish those unfinished books (all shouting out to me, like Jumanji) in the drawers here.   So if you want any writing crafted for you, just let me know  (jane.malyon AT havebedo.co.uk) and we’ll get that sorted!

Maybe Unexpected

o     Two years ago, at the age of 51 (rather late in the day), I took and passed my black belt grading in Kyokushinkai knockdown karate.  Yay!  Of course, I’m still having osteopathy as a result!

o       I was a balloon artist for some years and once was commissioned to make a 6′ tall Amazonian lady out of balloons.  She was somewhat anatomically correct too!  All very odd.

o       I acquired Canadian citizenship (as well as being British) 4 years ago and love travelling across the country and spending lots of time in Toronto too.

o       Hubby and I have had great fun putting on very over-the-top parties for our family’s birthdays/events – mediaeval banquet at pledgdon barn 150x150 About Janeand for one of our son’s Charlie & the Chocolate Factory Party, we painted the interior of our small wooden barn with melted chocolate, complete with chocolate curtains.  The local insects were thrilled.  The children were too actually!  It was easier putting it on than taking it off, alas.  For our Silver Wedding party, we had a Mediaeval Banquet complete with knights in shining armour.tipi in our garden2 150x150 About Jane

o       We have a full-sized native American pow-wow tipi in our English garden.  As you do.  Er, don’t  you?George Malyon, fire-breather

o       One of my twitter names is AuntieJaney – on which I put a daily idea of something fun to do with the children.  Bless ‘em.  Mind you, I’ll be careful what I suggest:  allowing our sons to have a Fire Party when they were younger (aren’t all young lads fascinated with fire?) led to a very unwise hobby.  Sigh.

Happy Days

I’ve so enjoyed being a trainer and an NLP Master Practitioner Coach.  It’s enabled me to meet some rather wonderful people really and since the year 2000, I’ve been coaching business and personal clients (including youngsters), facilitating meetings and offering training courses.  Great stuff.

When not doing any of that, I love to write (blogs, articles, all sorts…for myself and others) and I attend and run many networking groups.  I also play the piano, paint watercolours and create annoying quizzes.  Hcolourful food display by Country Cuisine Ltd www.barnevents.co.ukowever, most vitally, I’m a mother of 2 wickedly amazing sons (whom I miss dreadfully now they’ve left home!) and a wife and support to Roger, who runs a wedding event barn (ancient Pledgdon Barn www.barnevents.co.uk ), outside catering co. Country Cuisine Ltd and a part-time Supper Club.  I’m a walking advert for his great cooking!
